Stevenson Elementary unveils new playground

Stevenson Elementary School Principal Daryl Vossler unveiled a new playground at Stevenson Elementary on the first day of school on September 5. The new playground project totaled about $40,000 for new equipment, construction and landscaping.

An exciting addition for the elementary students was the brand new set of swings. Last spring, Stevenson Elementary students took a vote on what type of equipment they wanted and swings was one of the most popular voted-for items. Students could barely contain their excitement when Vossler announced that an additional six swings would be added to the playground within the first few weeks of school.

The project was made possible by contributions from the district, as well as community members and organizations.

“It’s really been a community effort,” Vossler said. “We’ve gotten support from so many people and it has just been energizing.”

Vossler started a GoFundMe page to allow for community members to contribute to the cause. Over $2,000 has been raised toward a $3,100 goal. Community organizations that donated to the project include the Fridley Parks and Recreation Department, Fridley Lions Club, and Stevenson PTO.
