Tuesday, Sept. 5

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Classes begin for the 2017-18 school year in Fridley, Columbia Heights and Mounds View School District.

Wednesday, Sept. 6

New Brighton Farmers Market, 3-7 p.m. at 3000 5th Street NE, New Brighton. Shop a variety of local produce vendors and artisans as well as food trucks and entertainment every Wednesday through September. Visit newbrightonfarmersmarket.org for more information.

Friday, Sept. 8

Northeast Bank 70th Anniversary, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Minneapolis office, located at 77 Broadway Street NE. The community picnic will feature free food, music, live art, and an appearance by the Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes. The Bank is hosting this annual event as a “thank you” to their customers and to celebrate their long-standing relationship with the Northeast community since 1947. Members of the community can enjoy free Dilly bars, beverages, tacos, corn, chips, and salsa, catered by El Nuevo Rodeo.

Sunday, Sept. 10

Build Your Own Omelet Breakfast, 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Fridley American Legion, 7365 Central Avenue NE in Fridley. The Legion volunteers serve a ‘Build your own omelet breakfast” on the second Sunday of every month. The breakfast starts at 8:30 and continues until noon. The meal includes omelet, potatoes, toast, with coffee or milk. You can also order eggs benedict instead of the omelet. The cost is $8 per person.

Monday, Sept. 11

Mounds View Sons of Norway, 7 p.m. at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 8211 Red Oak Drive in Mounds View. Come for a presentation by Genealogist Lenore Jesness of St. Paul’s Synnove Nordkap Sons of Norway Lodge regarding genealogy resources and information in Norway.

Sunday, Sept. 13

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Murzyn Hall, 530 Mill Street NE in Columbia Heights. The Columbia Heights Public Library Foundation will host its annual library fundraiser spaghetti dinner. Tickets cost $8 for adults (13 and up), $5 for children (5 to 12). All proceeds support the Columbia Heights Public Library’s programs and services funded by the Columbia Heights Public Library Foundation. Dinner includes spaghetti with meat sauce courtesy of Tasty Pizza, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Friday, Sept. 15

Springbrook Autumn Sampler, 6-9 p.m. at Springbrook Nature Center, 100 85th Ave in Fridley. Fridley Liquor partners with the Springbrook Nature Center Foundation for a brand new 21+ event! Guests will be able to sample great wines and beers from over 15 vendors and enjoy a delicious meal from Route 65 Pub & Grub (soon to be open in Fridley). Great items available in live and silent auctions to help raise money for a new picnic pavilion at Springbrook. Tickets are $35 each and available now at both Fridley Liquor stores and at Springbrook Nature Center. Spots are limited.

Rummage Sale, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church, 950 Gould Ave NE in Columbia Heights. Community United Methodist Church of Columbia Heights is hosting its annual fall rummage sale. There will be a Bake Sale, crafts and low-cost food available – some say “The best Sloppy Joes in town. Come early to find the treasures.”

Fish or Steak Dinner, 5;30-7:30 p.m. at the Fridley American Legion, 7365 Central Avenue NE. The Fridley American Legion Auxiliary serves a steak, or fish dinner on the third Friday of each month. The dinner includes steak or fish, a baked potato, lettuce salad and bread. Cost is $10 per person.
