A 20-year-old Crystal woman has been charged with causing a crash in Mounds View while driving under the influence.
Amanda Jane Nubin was charged in Ramsey County District Court with one count of criminal vehicular operation while driving under the influence. The crash occurred on July 6 at about 9:20 p.m. near the intersection of County Road H and Old Highway 8, court documents say.
According to the criminal complaint, Nubin was driving northbound on Old Highway 8 in a Honda Civic and did not slow as she approached the stop sign at the intersection. Her vehicle collided with a Ford Explorer driving eastbound on County Road H on the passenger side. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage and the driver and her daughter were transported to the hospital.
When Mounds View Police officers arrived on the scene, Nubin was outside of her vehicle, crying uncontrollably, and said “It’s my fault, I blew a stop sign,” according to the complaint.
Two male passengers, 21 and 20, were also near the vehicle. Both passengers were lying on the ground, appeared to be in pain and were transported to the hospital, the complaint said. One of the men suffered from a broken stemun and will be hospitalized for several days.
Nubin initially denied to consuming alcohol, but consented to a preliminary breath test which resulted in a value of 0.168, more than twice the legal driving limit, according to the complaint. She failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.
According to the complaint, an open bottle of whiskey and suspected marijuana were found in the vehicle. Nubin admitted to consuming one-half to three-quarters of a bottle of wine at 7:30 p.m. that evening but denied smoking marijuana.
Nubin is being held in Ramsey County Jail and is set on $30,000 bail. She made her first court appearance on July 10.
