Fridley graduate to compete at State Theatre for performance award

Margaret ‘Maggie’ Bergman, a June 2017 graduate of Fridley High School, is in the running for the coveted Triple Threat Award from Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Education program. She is one of 24 finalists from the state up for the award.

Bergman was nominated based on her performance in the leading role of Cinderella in December 2016 at Fridley High School, for which she also received an Outstanding Performance award from Spotlight Education.

Now in its 12th year, Spotlight Education, as the flagship education program of the Trust, provides valuable educational, performing and creative experiences for more than 5,000 students in 87 schools throughout the state. Students enrolled in their high school musical theatre programs receive professional training and guidance to enhance their artistic, technical and performing skills. The wide-ranging program’s four key components are master classes, Critical Review, production assessments and Spotlight Showcase.

The Triple Threat Award finalists performed at the Spotlight Showcase on the evenings of June 12, and June 13. Each night, the top male and female finalists will be named a Triple Threat Award winner. The four winners will be honored with the Spotlight Education Triple Threat Broadway Experience, presented by Sun Country Airlines. The Triple Threat Broadway Experience is an all-expenses paid trip to New York City to meet with industry professionals, participate in workshops and attend Broadway shows.

Bergman’s performance will be June 13. This fall Maggie will be attending The Boston Conservatory this fall to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.

Tickets for the Spotlight Showcase are on sale now at the State Theatre Box Office, through charge-by-phone at (800) 982-2787, or online at HennepinTheatreTrust.org.
