CHHS seniors honored with athlete and leadership awards

The Columbia Heights School Board honored Athena Award winner Pashia Scott and Oscar Eng Award recipient Ben Bardell at its May 23 meeting. The Athena Award recognizes an outstanding senior young female athlete from each of the Minneapolis area high schools by honoring each woman for her achievements in one or several sports. The Oscar Eng award goes to an outstanding senior male student at Columbia Heights High School who has excelled in extracurricular activities and demonstrated consistent leadership qualities.

Scott was selected for her volleyball and basketball skills and leadership. In basketball, she won All-Tri-Metro Conference honors once, was team captain and lettered all four seasons. She also was team captain and won all-conference honors in volleyball and lettered for three seasons. She intends to study marine biology in college.

Bardell was on the boys’ high school swim and dive team for six years and is a two-time state diving participant. This year, he served as captain of the team. Bardell is a member of the Key Club and intends to study welding and fabrication.
