Pedestrian struck, killed by UPS truck in Fridley

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Darlene Dame, 78, of Spring Lake Park.

Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that killed an elderly woman Thursday afternoon.

Just after 1:30 p.m. on June 1, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian-involved car accident on the University Avenue and Osborne Road intersection.

According to Fridley Police, a UPS delivery truck heading north on University Avenue struck a 78-year-old female from Spring Lake Park.

The victim was hit in the crosswalk as the vehicle was turning onto Osborne Road.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her identity has not yet been released.

Authorities are interviewing witnesses to determine who had the right of way at the time of the crash.

According to police, the driver of the delivery vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

Fridley Police say the driver could face charges depending on the outcome of the investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the accident.

The State Patrol, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, and Fridley Police Department are investigating.
