COLUMBIA HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOLS SCHOOL BOARD MEETING FEBRUARY 28, 2017
Chair Larkin called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

The Board honored the recipients of the Minnesota Scholastic Arts Awards from Columbia Heights Public Schools.

CONSENT AGENDA: Motion by Palmer, seconded by Asamarai, to approve the action required for implementation of the items on the consent agenda. The personnel report of February 28, 2017. Motion Carried
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF CONTRIBUTIONS RESOLUTION: Motioned by Asamarai, seconded by Lewis: Whereas: Minnesota Statute 123B.02 permits school boards to …receive, for the benefit of the district, bequests, donations, or gifts for any proper purpose and apply the same to the purpose designated. In that behalf, the board may act as trustee of any trust created for the benefit of the district, and for the benefit of pupils thereof.
Therefore: Be it resolved by the School Board of Columbia Heights Public Schools, Independent School District No. 13 that the School Board accepts with appreciation the contributions, detailed in the background, in the amount of $9,960.79.
DETAILED BACKGROUND: MONETARY: A donation of $105.00 was made to Valley View Elementary by Lisa Morah for student needs. A donation of $30.00 was made to Valley View Elementary by Carissa Geng for student needs. A donation of $70.00 was made to Valley View Elementary by Kyle Poturica for student needs. A donation of $400.00 was made to Columbia Heights Activities by Parsons Electric LLC for Columbia Academy Robotic teams. A donation of $100.00 was made to Columbia Heights Public Schools by Janet and John Filter in support of public education. A donation of $1,000.00 was made to Columbia Heights Public Schools by Hallberg Engineering for High School study seminar. A donation of $850.00 was made to Columbia Heights Public Schools by Sodexo, Inc. for High School study seminar. A donation of $100.00 was made to Columbia Heights Public Schools by MLA Architects, Inc. for High School study seminar. A donation of $200.00 was made to Columbia Heights Public Schools by Alex Jacques for High School study seminar. A donation of $100.79 was made to Columbia Heights Public Schools by Noodles and Company for High School study seminar. A donation of $250.00 was made to North Park Elementary by Columbia Heights Lions Club for hats and mittens. A donation of $700.00 was made to North Park Elementary by Scholarship America for 2nd grade field trip. A donation of $500.00 was made to Valley View Elementary by Northeast State Bank for student needs. The following donations were made to Columbia Heights High School Scholarship Program: Keith and Janice Olsen $25.00, Louann Restad $20.00, Zachary Prax – $100.00, Nick Morales – $2,700.00, Dyle Westman – $2,000.00. VALUE IN KIND: Donation of hats and gloves to Valley View Elementary by St. Philips Lutheran for winter basic needs. Estimated value of $160.00. Total fiscal year 2016-2017 monetary contributions to date: $56,142.54. Roll call vote: Asamarai-Aye; Severson-Aye; Lewis-Aye; Larkin-Aye; Palmer-Aye; Mueller-Aye. Motion carried and resolution adopted.

2017-2018 SCHOOL CALENDAR: Motion by Lewis, seconded by Palmer, to approve the 2017-2018 school calendar as presented. Motion Carried
ACHIEVEMENT AND INTEGRATION PLAN: Motion by Palmer, seconded by Lewis, to approve the Achievement and Integration Plan for 2018-2020 and the annual budget. Motion Carried
CURRICULUM CYCLE: Motion by Asamarai, seconded by Mueller, to approve the adoption of the 2016-2022 Curriculum Cycle. Motion Carried
COMMUNITY EDUCATION ADVENTURE CLUB/MINI ADVENTURE CLUB FEES: Motion by Palmer, seconded by Lewis, to approve the Adventure Club and Mini Adventures fee for 2017-2018 as presented. Motion carried.
WINDOW BIDS: Motion by Mueller, seconded by Asamarai, to award the Columbia Academy Window Replacement contract to TMG Construction. Motion carried.
HIGH SCHOOL HVAC SYSTEM: Motion by Lewis, seconded by Mueller, to award the Columbia Highs High School HVAC Replacement contract to Horwitz Construction. Motion carried.
Having completed all of the items on the regular agenda, at 8:17 p.m. Chair Larkin adjourned the meeting.
