The Mounds View Police Department invited Pinewood and Sunnyside Elementary students to bowl with the cops March 26.
An afternoon filled with pizza, pop and bowling, 28 children were able to enjoy their time with uniformed officers, members of the Mounds View Police Foundation, members of the Shoreview Target and city council members Sherry Gunn and Gary Meehlhause. The MVPD organized a Sunnyside vs. Pinewood competition, with Sunnyside taking home the traveling trophy for the year.
“This event was a great illustration of local law enforcement, city leaders, and local businesses coming together for a positive community event,” Mounds View Police Chief Nate Harder said. “We look forward to utilizing these partnerships for more of our upcoming outreach events.”
The Mounds View Police Department dedicates much of their time to volunteer youth outreach programs.
“The best takeaway I had was when a little girl came up to me and told me she had a great time at the Father Daughter Ball, and a great time bowling today-what’s next?” Harder said. “I feel this illustrates the need of positive interaction when kids are seeing us in a positive context and not seeing us and getting a sense of dread.”
