The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office launched the Online Warrant Search (OWS) on Jan. 31. The OWS is a web-based application designed to allow citizens, community members, crime victims and partner organizations to search and view public information related to individuals who have an active Ramsey County arrest warrant.
“The Online Warrant Search should help to improve community safety by providing arrest warrant information online and encouraging citizens to share knowledge with law enforcement,” Sheriff Matt Bostrom said. “An informed and engaged community is central to public safety.”
An arrest warrant, which calls for the immediate apprehension and arrest of a person, is issued by a judge as a result of a suspected commission of a crime and/or failure to follow an order of the court, such as a violation of probation or pre-trial supervision. While the Sheriff’s Office does not issue warrants, it is responsible by state statute for processing and maintaining warrant data.
The Sheriff’s Office website has informational resources related to warrants. Learn more about warrants, instructions on how to turn yourself in or post bail, and some of the unintended consequences of life with an arrest warrant. Tips concerning wanted persons can also be reported anonymously online. “The Sheriff’s Office has devoted significant resources to developing a website that will benefit our community,” added Bostrom. “We hope to be offering additional online services in the future.”
