Crime alert issued
At approximately 4 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, the New Brighton Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the area of West County Road E, west of Old Highway 8 N.W. and east of Silver Lake Road, for a report of a suspicious male attempting to gain entry into a house through a garage service door.
Officers immediately arrived in the area and spent more than an hour searching for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.
During the Feb. 7 morning hours, the department of public safety received multiple reports of burglaries in the area. The unknown suspect(s) entered through unlocked garage service doors and removed items from garages and vehicles in garages.
According to the department, closing garage doors and locking doors would have prevented 62 percent of the burglaries that occur in New Brighton. Law enforcement is asking everyone to contact your neighbor if you see their garage door open and unattended. Always ensure your doors are locked and immediately call 911 if you see anything out of the ordinary for your neighborhood.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is asked to contact the department of public safety via Facebook (New Brighton Department of Public Safety), online anonymously at newbrightonmn.gov/publicsafety or by calling 651-288-4100.
