Author speaks at Jan. 23 Encore program
Minnesota author Peter Vodenka will speak at the Encore program’s meeting 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, in room 116 of the Fridley Community Center, 6085 Seventh St. N.E.
Encore is a program designed with the recently retired or soon-to-retire adult in mind. This program offers special interest clubs, educational offerings, wellness and special events.
Vodenka escaped from Communist Czechoslovakia with his wife, 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son in the middle of a rainy night while being chased by border guards with machine guns, heavy-duty flashlights and dogs.
From the dream of a teenage boy longing for freedom in a small foreign country years ago, to living free in America, his is the story of someone reaching for the American dream.
A light dinner of soup and sandwiches will be served. Cost is $15 for the program and dinner.
