Photo highlights of 2012 from Mounds View, New Brighton
Here’s a quick look back at 2012 in Mounds View and New Brighton through the lenses of editors’ cameras.

- Audience members crowd the railing above the Irondale High School gym floor for a bird’s-eye view of the bands preparing for the Westside Band Festival Jan. 31, including the Irondale Concert Jazz Band, which performed while attendees found their seats. Mounds View School District 621 presented “A Westside Band Festival” in the Irondale High School gym, where several bands from the west side of the school district performed for friends and family. - As part of the school’s annual Peace Day program, Bel Air Elementary students in New Brighton on May 4 wave goodbye to the weather balloon, which popped and floated back to Earth with all of its data, which was later retrieved. During the program, the Irondale Concert Choir performed songs during an assembly in the gym. Then students headed outdoors to form a giant peace sign and launch a weather balloon, which carried video cameras and a GPS tracker. After the morning school events, students in grades three through five went out into the Bel Air community to deliver student-made Peace Day baskets to area residents. - Participants in the tennis carnival March 31 in New Brighton rotated through a number of stations to help develop hand-to-eye coordination, aim and timing. Recreation departments from New Brighton, Roseville and Shoreview partnered to bring a tennis clinic event to Highview Middle School in New Brighton.
