Columbia Heights School Board certifies 2013 tax levy
The Columbia Heights School Board on Dec. 11 unanimously approved the 2013 property tax levy.
The tax levy for 2013 totals approximately $8.5 million, which is an increase of 2.15 percent or about $180,000 over 2012.
This past September, the School Board had unanimously approved the preliminary certification of the levy, which was an increase of 3.63 percent over last year’s levy.
“For this year, we talked a lot about the lease levy payment for the new addition on Highland [Elementary]. The board has elected not to levy for those dollars,” said Director of Finance and Operations Bill Holmgren.
The district will make a yearly decision whether it needs to levy the dollars, but it should be able to make payments using enrollment dollars from the general fund.
“I believe we’ve tried to hold the line on the levy as much as we can,” said School Board member Ted Landwehr.

– School Board members Keith Roberts and Joe Sturdevant were recognized for their years of service. The Dec. 11 meeting marked their last of their terms. Board Chair Missy Lee said it has been an honor to work with both of them, who are “very near and dear to her heart.”
