Christmas time on the mat
Area teams travel to major tournament in Rochester

Last weekend was a major weekend in high school wrestling as Rochester played host to the Minnesota Christmas Wrestling Tournament.
Fans were able to witness the best high school wrestlers throughout the states of Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Three local teams participated in the event but did not bring home any hardware this Christmas.
Totino-Grace placed the highest overall in the event coming in 18th, Irondale placed 34th, and Mounds View placed 35th, there were a total of 36-teams who participated in the event. Some individuals had success in their particular weight classes.
Irondale senior Ryan Weinmann placed eighth in the 120-lb weight division.
Sophomore Isaac Florell from Totino-Grace placed seventh in the 182-lb division.
Lance Benick fell just short from bringing home the title in 195-lb division as he was defeated by Kasson-Mantorville’s Broc Berge who claimed the championship.
Joe Schiller, a senior from Totino-Grace, placed fifth in the 285-lb division.
