The Southern Anoka Community Assistance (SACA) food shelf is seeking monetary, food and new toy donations to help less fortunate families celebrate Christmas.
SACA serves the communities of Columbia Heights, Hilltop, Fridley and Spring Lake Park.
“It’s a tough year with the economy still,” said SACA Assistant Director Rick Johnson. “We’re probably going to end up serving 800 to 1,000 families. We’re hurting for dollars and food.”
SACA especially needs toys for girls ages 9-12, family games, books and gift cards.
“We do have a great community and they usually come through,” Johnson said.
Christmas give-out days are Dec. 19 and 20, and SACA needs volunteers to sort the gift and food items. Donations will be accepted up to Dec. 18.
SACA is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. To make an appointment to drop off donations after hours, call the food shelf at 763-789-2444. SACA is at 627 38th Ave. N.E. in Columbia Heights.
