Recount for Columbia Heights council seat

A total of 13 votes separate incumbent Bruce Nawrocki and Catherine Vesley for a seat on the Columbia Heights City Council.

Nawrocki received 3,401 votes and Vesley received 3,388 in the Nov. 6 general election.

City Clerk Tori Leonhardt said Vesley has requested a recount of the 13,500 ballots, and the 13 vote difference qualifies for a recount, according to state statute.

The recount is being handled through Anoka County. It will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, and results are expected by the end of the day, between 4 and 5 p.m.

Nawrocki’s first term as a council member was 1961 to 1964. He served as mayor from 1965 to 1987, was a council member from 1990 to 1994, and has served as a council member from 2001 to the present.
